Orgues Nouvelles is a magazine which, in each issue, contains a section of sheet music. As this combination of feature articles and practical music-making recently celebrated its golden anniversary (issue no. 50), we felt it was important to bring together some of the sheet music published in these first 50 issues in a separate collection. In doing so, we wanted, on the one hand, to complete certain scores that were initially published only in excerpt form and, on the other hand, to enrich the collection with several unpublished pieces, selected according to the theme chosen for each of the collections.
Miscellanae: a strange title to introduce this new offering from our magazine, but its definition perfectly captures its spirit: ‘a literary genre composed of mixed texts, a kind of literary mosaic’. For the first volume of this new collection, we offer a set of transcriptions and contemporary compositions ‘in the old style’ which, we hope, will delight your minds, fingers and ears.
