‘In the world of the organ, the constant re-examination of aesthetics, whether in organ building or in how we make them sound, has shaped the journey of musicians of my generation. I believe that historical research can enrich our perspectives or challenge us. However, musicological information must not take precedence over the spontaneous connection to the essence of music. This essence can be felt and understood through intuition, but also — and this is very important — through a deep understanding of music as a symbolic language based on its physical relationship with nature.’ (Lionel Rogg, ON50, 2022).
Lionel Rogg is undoubtedly one of the great names in organ music, and over the years he has left his mark on successive generations of musicians in various ways. With modesty and hindsight, this versatile artist conveys a personal, enriching and stimulating vision of the organ and music.
